Does the maternal leukocytes count have a place in predicting preterm labor?

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the importance of the elevated maternal leukocyte counts in the prediction of preterm labor. Materials and Methods: The study was carried on 147 pregnant women prospectively. Seventy seven pregnant women were hospitalized diagnosed as having preterm labor was compared with 70 healthy pregnant women in terms of age, parity, gestational week, hemoglobine, trombocytes and leukocytes values. Results. There were statistically significant difference between the groups throughout all parameters. Conclusion: The data derived from the study shows that the maternal leukocyte count is not a useful parameter in predicting preterm labor.

Özet

Amaç: Artmış maternal lökosit sayısının preterm eylem prediksiyonunda yeri olup olmadığını araştırmak. Materyal ve Metod: 147 gebe üzerinde prospektif olarak yapıldı. Preterm eylem nedeniyle hospitalize edilen 77 gebe ile 70 sağlıklı gebe yaş, parite, gestasyonel hafta, hemoglobin, trombosit ve lökosit açısından karşılaştırıldı. Sonuçlar: İki grup arasında bakılan tüm parametreler açısından istatistiksel anlamlı bir farklılık bulunamadı, Tartışma: Çalışmadan elde ettiğimiz sonuçlara göre maternal lökosit sayısı preterm eylemin prediksiyonunda faydalı bir parametre değildir.
