Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to reveal polyneuropathy (PNP), subclinical PNP and the factors effecting PNP development in Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients by using electrophysiological methods. Material and Method: Fifty-one Type 1 DM cases referred to our electrophysiology laboratory for PNP investigation without any other additional disease causing PNP were included in the study. In all cases nerve conduction studies were evaluated by standart electrophysiological methods and additionally tibial and ulnar F waves and the right hand and the left foot sympathetic skin responses were also recorded. Statistical analysis was done. Results: PNP was detected in seven patients (13.7 %). Disease period was longer and there was a male preponderans in the PNP group. The relation between mean HbA1c value and neuropathy was statistically significant (p
