A major obstacle in correct interpretation of causal association: confounder

Abstract
Confounding is the presence of a third variable which affect the association between cause and outcome like effectmodification. In order to be accepted as a confounding variable, a variable has to provide some certain conditions. Thedetermination of a third variable as a confounder will affect the correct interpretation of association between cause andoutcome. In this paper confounder concept is explained with an example.

Karıştırıcı da etki değişimi gibi neden ile sonuç arasındaki ilişkinin boyutunu etkileyen üçüncü bir değişkenin varlığıdurumudur. Bir değişkenin karıştırıcı olarak kabul edilmesi için belli koşulları sağlaması gereklidir. Üçüncü bir değişkeninkarıştırıcı olarak saptanması neden ile sonuç arasındaki ilişkinin doğru yorumlanmasını önemli derecede etkileyecektir.Bu yazıda bir örnekle karıştırıcı kavramı açıklanmıştır.
