Abstract

Perge, founded in the Pamphylia region, has been one of the important cities of the Ancient Age. Perge is four km away from Aksu River (Kestros) in Antalya province and eleven km from the sea. The important feature of the city is that it is a city that has the characteristic features of the Panhellenistic period. Another feature is that it was ruled by a female leader, Palancia Magna, at the time when Christianity began to spread to Roman cities. Plancia Magna AD. I. and II. it is known that she was the daughter of the Plancius family of Italian origin who lived in the city of Perge in the Pamphylia region in the centuries and her father M. Plancius Varus was the senator and the provincial governorship. On the other hand, Palancia Magna (AD 120-126) achieved this position in the public sphere thanks to the position of his family and wife in the empire. The question of whether the empire has a management system that provides opportunities for women to reveal their potential, due to the cosmopolitan nature of the empire, emerges as an area of research. Therefore, the research aims to help the guides to support the place-oriented promotions of the period with a different perspective of thought by following the traces of the thought currents of that period, which determined the position of women in Rome and the style of managing the city, the character of the woman and the place, through Palancia Magna, known as Perge’s daughter. In the research, the political, social and economic structure of the city of the Roman Empire and the position of Plancia Magna as a female figure in this structure were tried to be examined within this framework.
