THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL VISIBILITY ON THE PURPOSE OF EATING OUT: THE CASE OF ÇANAKKALE

Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to reveal the effect of social visibility on eating out by addressing the purposes of consumers to eat out. Within the scope of the study, the phenomenon of eating out was discussed, and then the phenomenon of social visibility was evaluated, and the concepts were explained by examining the studies carried out within the scope of the literature. Within the scope of the research, the population of the study consists of consumers living in the Çanakkale Central region. In the study, which was carried out with the quantitative research method, data were collected on 404 people through questionnaires. According to the research findings, it was concluded that social visibility has a positive effect on the goals of eating out. However, the participants mostly “have a good time with family/friends, try different flavors, It is seen that he ate outside in order to participate in the special day celebrations held outside. In the study, it was concluded that male participants were more socially visible. In addition, it was concluded that 28% of the participants use social media in order to be socially visible.
Özet
Çalışmada tüketicilerin dışarıda yemek yeme amaçları ele alarak, dışarıda yemek yeme de sosyal görünürlüğün etkisi ortaya konulması amaçlamıştır. Araştırma kapsamında çalışma evrenini Çanakkale Merkez bölgesinde yaşayan tüketiciler oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada 404 kişi üzerinde anket aracılığıyla veri toplanmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre sosyal görünürlüğün dışarıda yemek yeme amaçları üzerinde olumlu bir etkiye sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bununla birlikte katılımcıların en çok “aile/arkadaşlar ile iyi vakit geçirmek, farklı lezzetleri denemek, dışarıda yapılan özel gün kutlamalara katılmak” amacıyla dışarıda yemek yediği tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmada erkek katılımcıların daha fazla sosyal olarak görünür oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca katılımcıların %28’i sosyal olarak görünür olmak amacıyla sosyal medya kullandığı belirlenmiştir.
