A case of osteoid osteoma of the rib and review of the literature

Abstract

A rare case ofosteoid osteoma and localized on the 7th rib is presented with a review of the literature. Osteoid osteoma (0.0), account for approximately 20% of all benign bone tu¬mors, is a benign osteoblastic lesion. However osteoid osteoma located on a rib is extremely rare. Such lesions constitute less than I % of all rib tumors. Because of its rarity, and nonspecific clinicopathological findigns, histopathological examina¬tion is essantial for accurate diagnosis, Since inappropriate treatment result in multiple the treatment of choice is "en bloc" excision of the tumor and some sur¬rounding bone.
