Effects of the local anesthetic agents on the bladder and urethral muscles

Abstract

Objectives: In urology local anesthetics are used for topical anesthesia of urethra and bladder before endoscopic procedures. But there is a few animal study about local effectiveness of these agents on bladder or urethra muscle. In this study we investigated topical effects of local anesthetics. Methods: We tried to determine effects of prilocaine, lidocaine and bupivacaine on urethral and bladder smooth muscle strips which are derived from rats.
