Effect of Natural Aging on Surface Properties of Chestnut Wooden Elements

Kestane Ahşap Elemanlarının Yüzey Özellikleri Üzerine Doğal Yaşlanmanın Etkisi

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the some surface properties (color, brightness and surface roughness) of the wooden elements not impregnated with any protective chemicals and taken from different parts of randomly selected sample houses in Zeytinlik district which is registered as a third degree urban protected area in Giresun, Eastern Black Sea Region. The surface properties of old wooden elements and recent wood sample were measured according to relevant standards. As a result of this study, it was found that the color parameters (L* , a* and b * values) of the outer surfaces of all old wooden elements decreased compared to the control sample, the outer surfaces exposed to both light and moisture with the effect of natural aging lost their brightness over time and generally surface roughness values increased.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı Doğu Karadeniz Bölgesi, Giresun ilinde bulunan ve kentsel sit alanıolarak tescil edilmiş Zeytinlik Mahallesi’nde rastgele belirlenen örnek evlerin farklıkısımlarından alınan ve herhangi bir koruyucu kimyasalla emprenye edilmemiş ahşapelemanların bazı yüzey özelliklerinin (renk parametreleri, parlaklık ve yüzey pürüzlülüğü)araştırılmasıdır. Eski ahşap elemanlar ve günümüz odun örneğinin (kontrol örneği) yüzeyözellikleri ölçümleri ilgili standartlara göre gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda, tüm eskiahşap elemanların dış yüzeylerinin renk parametrelerinde (L*, a* ve b* değerleri) kontrolörneğine kıyasla azalma olduğu, doğal yaşlanmanın etkisiyle gerek ışığa gerekse rutubetemaruz kalan dış yüzeylerin zamanla parlaklığını kaybettiği ve yüzey pürüzlülük değerlerindegenel olarak bir artışın olduğu belirlenmiştir.
