Abstract
In this study, 90 pregnant women who were referred to İzmir Atatürk Training Hospital gynaecology policlinics between 15/8/1996 and 15/12/1996 whose ages ranging between 17-40 are analysed with single serum progesterone levels in order to evaluate the value of this test to predict the prognosis. Serum pro-gesterone levels founded 17.85+7.997 ng/ml and 12.19±8.53 ng/ml for viable preg-nancies and nonviable pregnancies respectively. Elevated levels of single serum progesterone in the 3-8 weeks of pregnancy is found correlated with viability and decreased levels with nonviable pregnancies. By means of serum progesterone levels it is found that there is statistically significant differences between the pregnancies which terminates abnormally and normally. It is supposed that analysing serum progesterone levels in the first 8 weeks of pregnancy will be helpful for the pre-diction of prognosis.
