Abstract
The discovery in 2000 by the French-Uzbek Archeological Mission of mural paintings of the second half of the twelfth and beginning of the thirteenth centuryin Samarqand has contributed to our knowledge of pre-Mongol painting traditi- ons, a field of great importance. Each newly discovered image requires its owndetailed study, which would be impossible to include in one article. In that context we present in this first preliminary article the main framework of a study thatwill be elaborated in further publications: to present the main results of theexcavation between 2000 and 2003 concerning architecture and painting; topropose a first interpretation of the artistic program and style (with particular regard to the pre-Islamic tradition) and of the archeological evidence related to thepreservation of mural decoration in the pre-Mongol period; and to discuss somehistorical issues connected with the Qarakhanids.
Özet
Fransız-Özbek Arkeoloji Heyeti tarafından 2000 yılında Semerkantta, 12. yüzyılın ikinci yarısı ile 13. yüzyıl başlarına tarihlenen duvar resimlerinin keşfi, büyüköneme sahip bir saha olan Moğol öncesi resim geleneklerine dair malumatımızaönemli ölçüde katkıda bulunmuştur. Her yeni keşfedilen resmin bir makaledegeçiştirilemeyecek derecede detaylıca incelenmesi gerekir. Bu bağlamda, başlangıç seviyesindeki bu ilk makalede daha sonraki yayınlarda özenle işlenecekolan bir çalışmanın ana iskeletini göstereceğiz: 1- 2000-2003 yılları arasındakikazının mimarî ve resimle ilgili verilerini sunmak, 2- (İslam öncesi geleneğe özelbir bakışla birlikte) süsleme programı ve üslubu ile Moğol öncesi döneme ait günümüze ulaşmış duvar süslemesine ilişkin arkeolojik bulguların ilk yorumunuvermek, 3- Karahanlılara dair bazı tarihi konuları tartışmak.
