Abstract
Basra, which dates back to the ancient era and which was established as agarrison for the military purpose in the time of Caliph Umar, has important pos ition becau se of its geo -strategic and geopolitical loc a tion.Basra was a centre for the first rebellion against the central authority in theearly Islamic history; furthermore, it continued this central position in the historical process and Basra, which had identi fied with the religious and political rebe llion, was seen as a city of rebellions in the Ottoman period as well. One of themovements of rebellion and invasion which took place in Basra is Bedouins rebellion in 1691, which was dissolved ten years later du ring the Basra Campaign .In this military movement which involved hundred and fifty thousand there wasunseen any conflicts and the soldiers of Ottoman army provided the obediencefthis area once more just by military walking.

GeçmiĢi kadim devirlere kadar uzanan ve Hz. Ömer zamanında as kerî amaçlıbir garnizon olarak kurulan Basra, her dönemde jeostratejik ve jeopolitik kon u- mundan kaynaklanan bir öneme sahip olmuĢtur.islam tarihinde merkezî otoriteye karĢı baĢlatılan ilk isyanda taraf olma, so n- rasında ise dinî ve siyasî içerikli pek ço k isyanda merkez olma özelliği ile ön pl a- na çıkan Basra, Osmanlı tarihinde de isyanlar Ģehri olarak anılmıĢtır. Basra dameydana gelen bu isyan ve istila hareketlerinden biri de 1691 yılında patlak v e- ren ve ancak on yıl sonra düzenlenen Basra Seferi ile ba stırılan Urbân i syanıdır.Yüz elli bin kiĢilik bir ordu ile gerçekleĢtirilen bu seferde herhangi bir çatıĢma y a- ĢanmamıĢ, Osmanlı ordusu sırf yürüyüĢle bölgenin yeniden itaatini sa ğ lamıĢtır.
