Abstract

Wives’ decisions regarding their working hours and their assortatie matig levels with respect to income affctthe main determinants of family-income inequality in any given country. In this paper, I estiate the degreeof sortig between both husbands’ earnings and wives’ working hours and between husbands’ earnings andwives’ earnings in Turkey. For the analyses I have used the Turkish Statitial Instiute’s Labor Force Surveysconducted from 2004 to 2017, estiated the assortatie matig coeffient for each year separately, and thenpooled the data. The results indicate that positie assortatie matig in terms of earnings exists for all theanalysed years. The results further suggest that a negatie relatinship exists between a husband’s income andhis wife’s working hours in Turkey.
