Turkey Ukraine relations during the period of leonid Kuchma constructive partnership

Abstract
Turkey Ukraine relations continuously improved and advanced after the declaration of independenceof Ukraine. An intense and close cooperation was also maintained during the period of LeonidKuchma who was elected as president in 1994. In this period, Ukraine was one of the countries withwhich Turkey most wanted to cooperate in all areas. Kuchma described the ongoing relationshipbetween the two countries as constructive partnership and Turkey made efforts to enhance itscooperation with the northern neighbour to the highest level. Although the cooperation between thetwo countries had a very high potential, it did not reach the required level even during the periodof Kuchma.
Özet
Türkiye ile Ukrayna ilişkileri Ukraynanın bağımsızlığını ilan etmesinden sonra, sürekli gelişerekilerlemiştir. 1994 yılında cumhurbaşkanı seçilen Leonid Kuchma döneminde de yoğun ve sıkı birişbirliği yaşanmıştır. Ukrayna, bu dönemde Türkiyenin her alanda en fazla işbirliği yapmak istediğiülkelerden biri olmuştur. Kuchma, iki ülke arasında devam eden ilişkileri yapıcı ortaklık olarak tarifetmiş, Türkiye de kuzey komşusu ile işbirliğini en üst düzeye çıkarmak için çaba sarf etmiştir. İkiülke arasındaki işbirliği çok yüksek bir potansiyele sahip olmasına rağmen Kuchma döneminde debulunması gereken seviyeye ulaşamamıştır.
