The "State of the World's Forests - 2003" survey by FAO and some facts and figures concerning Turkish forestry

Abstract
The "State of the World's Forests" reports every two years on the status of forests, recent major policy and institutional developments and key issues concerning the forest sector. The new one for the year 2003 is the fifth edition of the publication, the purpose of which is to provide current and reliable information to policy - makers, foresters and the other natural resource managers, academics, forest industry and civil society. The recent state of the world's forests and some facts and figures concerning Turkish forestry are reviewed in this article as a contribution to forestry literature in Turkish language.
Özet
Birleşmiş Milletler Gıda ve Tarım Örgütü (FAO), iki yılda bir "Dünya Ormanlarının Durumu" (State of the World's Forests) adını verdiği etütler yayınlayarak ormanların durumunu ortaya koymakta, orman sektörüne ilişkin ana politikadaki ve kurumlardaki en yeni gelişmelerle birlikte sektörle ilgili çok önemli konuları rapor etmektedir. Politikacılara, ormancılara ve diğer doğal kaynak yöneticilerine, akademisyenlere, orman endüstrisine ve sivil topluma en son ve güvenilir bilgileri vermek amacını güden bu yayınların beşincisi, 2003 yılında çıkarılmıştır. Bu yazı, FAO'nun 2003 yılındaki durum değerlendirmesinde yer alan bazı bilgilerin çok kısa olarak Türkçe ormancılık literatürüne kazandırılması amacıyla hazırlanmıştır.
