Abstract
Pityogenes bidentatus (Hrbst.) is an important pest especially on spruce and other conifer forests in Eastern Black Sea Region. If no precautions are taken against this pest, it may become a primary pest on young conifer trees and may kill them. In this study, the biology of P. bidentatus was studied and its sixteen predatory insects were determined. Effectiveness of the predators in the biological control were also determined by the calculation of population density of each predator. Thanasimus formicarius (L.) and Rhizophagus dispar (Payk.) were found to be relatively more effective in the control of P. bidentatus than others. In addition to these, two other predator insects, Nemosoma elongatum (L.) and Paraphloeus linearis F., were also found that they preferred to feed on P. bidentatus.
