Filicide cases in Turkey

Abstract

Filicide cases in Turkey. Filicide is the killing of a child by his or her parents. In this study, we aimed to find out some sociodemographic features of parents who commit filicide crime and make some contribution to the knowledge base on creating precautions. The study compromised of 85 cases accused of filicide and admitted by the Institute of Forensic Medicine, 4th Specialization Board in between 1995 - 2000. The characteristics of parents who committed filicide (age, gender, educational and job status), those of children who were killed by their parents (age, gender, own or stepchild) and the types of crime were evaluated. The mean age of mothers who committed filicide (51.8%) was 26.45 and of fathers (48.2%) was 36.14. The difference between mean ages was found to be statistically significant. There have been 96 children who were filicide victims. 91.7% of the children were parent's own children and most of them (82.3%) were under the age of 12. 24.7% of the methods used for murder in this study group were asphyxia, 23.5% were commicted by cutting-perforating-crushing instruments. Individuals without criminal liability were diagnosed to have schizophrenia (61.0%), major depression (22%), imbecility (9.7%) and debility (7.3%).

Filisid, çocuğun ebeveynlerince öldürülmesi eylemidir. Çalışmada, ülkemizde filisid suçunu işleyen bireylerdeki bazı sosyodemografık özellikler ile ebeveynlerin cezai sorumluluk durumlarını belirlemek, böylece koruyucu önlemleri geliştirmeye yönelik bilgi birikimine katkıda bulunmak amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma 1995-2000 yılları arasında filisid sanığı olarak Adli Tıp Kurumu 4. İhtisas Kurulu' na gelen 85 olaydan oluşmaktadır. Suçu işleyen ebeveyne (yaş, cinsiyet, eğitim ve iş durumu), öldürülen çocuğa (yaş, cinsiyet, öz veya üvey olması) ve suçun işleniş biçimine ilişkin özellikler değerlendirilmiştir.Filisid suçunu işleyen %51.8 oranda annenin ortalama yaşı 26.45, %48.2 oranda babanın ortalama yaşı 36.14 dür. Ortalamalar arasındaki farklılık istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur. Filisid kurbanı 96 çocuk bulunmaktadır. Çocukların % 91.7'si ebeveynlerin öz çocuklarıdır ve büyük çoğunluğu (%82.3) 12 yaş altındadır. Çalışma grubundaki öldürme eylemlerinin % 24.7'si boğma, % 23.5'i ise kesici- delici ezici alet ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Cezai sorumluluğu olmayan bireylere, %61.0 şizofreni, %22 majör depresyon, %9.7 embesilite, %7.3 oranlarında débilite tanısı konmuştur.
