Denture stomatitis and prosthetic evaluations of complete denture patients

Abstract

In this study, 97 complete denture wearers in which 64 pati¬ents with clinical evidence of atrophic denture stomatitis (A.P.S.) and hypertrophic denture stomatitis (H.P.S.) and 33 complete denture wearers clipical signs of denture stoma¬titis were investigated. These patients were evaluated according to some parame¬ters such as sex, menauposis, age average, duration of den¬ture usage, type of denture base materials, the lines which were formed on the surface of the denture and retention sta¬bility, vertical dimension, cheilitis, centric occlusion, wear of the occlusal surfaces of artificial teeth. We also tried to find out a relation between these parameters and the satis¬faction of patient. After evaluating the datas of 97 patients, we can assume that sex or the other factors like the lines on fitting surface oj the dentures may be the cause of the denture stomatitis. Cheilitis is mostly seen on the patients who has A.P.S. and loss of vertical dimension. It can be concluded that the dis¬content of the patients increases when the prosthetic para¬meters were changed.

Bu çalışmada, total protezi kullanan ve klinik olarak "Atrofik Protez Stomatiti" (A.P.S.) ve "Hipertrofik Protez Stomatiti" (H.P.S.) bulgusu gösteren 64 hasta ve protez stomatiti bulgusu göstermeyen 33 hasta ol¬mak üzere toplam 97 hasta incelenmiştir. Hastalarda; cinsiyet, kadın hastaların menopozda olup olmadıkları, yaş ortalamaları, protezlerin yaş or¬talaması ve kaide plağının cinsi, üst protezde doku yü¬zeyindeki işlemler ve retansiyonu, stabilitesi, protezle¬rin dikey boyutu, şellitis bulgusu, sentiik ilişki, sentlik oklüzyon, suni dişlerin oklüzal yüz aşımını gibi prote-tik parametreler saptanmıştır. Ayrıca, bu parametreler ile hastaların protezlerinden memnuniyet ilişkisi de¬ğerlendirilmiştir. Toplam 97 hastanın bulgularının incelenmesi sonu¬cunda; cinsiyetin, üst protezin doku yüzeyinde çeşitli çizgi ve çıkıntıların yapılmasının protez stomatituıin et-yolojik faktörlerinden olabileceği; şellitis bulgusunun ise, dikey boyutu düşük ve özellikle A.P.S'li hastalarda daha çok görüldüğü ve protetik parametrelerin bozul¬masıyla, protezlerden memnuniyetsizliğin arttığı sap¬tanmıştır.
