Abstract
Recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAU) are the most commonly occuring nontraumatic ulcerations of the oral cavity. Altho¬ugh immunological origin of RAU is emphasized by the most investigators in recent years, the etiology is still obscu¬re. Because of decreased tissue resistance, candidiasis which is an opportunistic infection may be associated with RAU. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence oj Candida inpatients with RAU. In the study, to investigate the presence of Candida, the clini¬cal, mycological and cytological methods were performed in 40 patients with RAU. According to the mycological and cytological results, there was candidal infection in 16 pati¬ents (40%). This results showed that, because local tissue resistence impaired, candidal infection may considerably associate with RAU.
Özet
Rekürrent aftöz ülserler (RAÜ), oral kavitede en sık görülen nontravmatik ülserasyonlardır. Son yıllarda pekçok araştırmacı tarafından immünolojik orjini vur¬gulanmasına rağmen RAÜ'in etiyolojisi halen karanlık¬tır.
