Investigation of mast cells in oral soft tissue lesions

Abstract

Mast cells, by releasing various chemical material affecting material affecting the vessels and connective tissue cells, play an important role in different physiological and patho¬logical events, like allergic reactions, inflammation and wo¬und healing. %ithe present study, the amount and the locali¬zation of the mast cells in certain oral lesions, as inflamma¬tory fibrous hyperplasia, irritation fibroma, peripheral fib¬roma, granuloma pyogenicum, hemangioma and periphe¬ral giant cell granuloma were investigated. Findings were compared and discussed with reference to those of the litera¬ture. Mast cells were generally observed in mild intensity and they were localized within the connective tissue and su¬bepithelial region. In oral lesions most of the mast cells were found to be related to fibrous tissue formation. Mucosal type of mast cells, which were localized in close relation to the epithelium were thought to have a role in the nutrition of the traumatic epithelium.

Değişik kimyasal maddeler salgılayarak damarlar ve bağ dokusu hücrelerini etkileyen mast hücreleri, aller-jik reaksiyonlar, iltihap, yara iyileşmesi gibi çeşitli fiz¬yolojik ve patolojik olaylarda rol oynarlar. Bu çalışma¬da iltihapsal fibröz hiperplazi, iritasyon fibromu, peri-ferik fibroin, piyojenik granülom, hemanjiom ve peri-ferik dev hücreli reparatif granülom tanısı konmuş ağız lezyonlarmda mast hücrelerinin yoğunluk ve loka-lizasyonları incelenmiş, bulgular kaynak bilgileriyle karşılaştırılarak tartışılmıştır..Ağız içindeki lezyonlar-da mast hücrelerinin genellikle orta yoğunlukta görül¬düğü epitel altı ve bağ dokusu bölgelerinde daha fazla lokalize olduğu gözlenmiştir. Âğız lezyonlarmda mast hücrelerinin çoğunlukla bağ dokusu içinde kollagen lif yapımı ile ilişkili olduğu, epitel altında görülen muko-zal tipteki mast hücrelerinin ise travmaya uğramış epi-telin beslenmesi ile ilişkili olabileceği sonucuna varıl¬mıştır.
