Rhinoorbital mucormycosis: Palatal necrosis

Abstract

Mucormycosis is an invasive fungal infection caused primar- ily by fungi of the order Mucorales. In the majority of cases,it is associated with an underlying disorder, such as diabe- tes mellitus with ketoacidosis, or with immunocompromisingfactors, but it may also appear in healthy people, althoughrarely. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to preventan otherwise fatal outcome. We report a case of rhinoorbitalmucormycosis. Following a review of the literature, require- ments for diagnosis and treatment are evaluated.

Özet

Mukormikoz primer olarak mukorales grubu funguslarınneden olduğu invaziv fungal bir hastalıktır. Mukormikozolguların çoğunda diyabetik ketoasidoz, immünsüpresyongibi altta yatan hastalığı bulunanlarda görülse de nadirensağlıklı bireylerde de görülebilir. Erken tanı ve tedavi yük- sek morbidite ve mortaliteye sahip bu hastalık için kritiköneme sahiptir. Bu yazıda, rinoorbital mukormikoz olgususunuldu. Literatür gözden geçirilerek tanı ve tedavi için ya- pılması gerekenler değerlendirildi.
