Evaluation of revision rhinoplasty

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: With the growing popularity of rhinoplasty operations expectations are increased for both patients and doctors. In this study, the need of revision surgery who underwent primary rhinoplasty operation was searched. Also,we evaluated complications which are account for deformity and techniques to be applied. METHODS: 9 patients who underwent revision rhinoplasty surgery between 2007 and 2009 were included in the study. Files of the patients, preoperative and postoperative examination findings, facial analysis, operative notes, preoperative and postoperative photographs were reviewed retrospectively RESULTS: Firstly, the complications and mistakes are detected, after then the most appropriate surgical techiniques can be applied during the revision surgery. CONCLUSION: In revision surgery, the expectations of the patients should be well understood and patients should be informed in details. These operations need more complex techniques than primary rhinoplasty operations.The revision surgery must be applied by experienced surgeons.

AMAÇ: Rinoplasti operasyonunun artan popülaritesi ile birlikte hastaların ve doktorların beklentileri artmıştır. Bu çalışmada, rinoplasti operasyonu geçirmiş hastaların neden revizyon cerrahiye ihtiyaç duyduğu araştırıldı. Deformiteye yol açan komplikasyonlar ve bunlara uygulanabilecek teknikler değerlendirildi YÖNTEMLER: 2007 ve 2009 yılları arasında revizyon rinoplasti operasyonu uygulanmış 9 hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hastaların dosyaları, preoperatif ve postoperatif muayene bulguları, fasiyal analizleri, ameliyat notları, preoperatif ve postoperatif fotoğrafları retrospektif olarak incelendi. BULGULAR: Rinoplastide revizyon cerrahiye neden olan komplikasyonlar ve hatalar saptanarak, deformitelere uygulanabilecek cerrahi teknikler ortaya kondu. SONUÇ: Revizyon cerrahisi; hasta beklentilerinin iyi anlaşılıp bilgilendirmenin tam yapılması gereken bir girişim tipidir. Primer ameliyatlara göre daha karmaşık tekniklere ihtiyaç duyulan bu operasyonların deneyimli cerrahlarca yapılması uygundur
