Abstract

Objective: Hepatitis B virüs infection is a very important health problem for our country. Our country is in a mid-endemic area for hepatitis B infec-tion. The aim of our study is to determine the prevalence of depression among patients with chronic hepatitis B.Methods: In this study, 170 cases with chronic hepatitis B who were fol-lowed in the İnfectious Diseases polyclinic were included. Beck Depression Inventory was administered to cases.Results: This study has shown that depression scores of female cases are higher than males and smokers cases are higher than nonsmokers.Conclusion: The presence of depression might be related to poor treat-ment outcome. Psychiatric assessment and early intervention is very im-portant in this case.

Özet

Amaç: Hepatit B virüs infeksiyonu ülkemiz için önemli bir sağlık sorunu-dur. Ülkemiz hepatit B virüs infeksiyonları açısından orta endemik bölge-de yer almaktadır. Çalışmamızın amacı hepatit B infeksiyonlu hastalarda depresyon görülme sıklığının belirlenmesidir. Yöntemler: Çalışmaya infeksiyon hastalıkları polikliniğinde kronik hepatit B infeksiyonu nedeni ile takip edilen 170 olgu alındı. Olgulara Beck dep-resyon ölçeği uygulandı.Bulgular: Bu çalışma hepatit B infeksiyonlu kadın olgularda depresyon oranının erkeklerden daha yüksek ve sigara içenlerde içmeyenlere göre daha yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir.Sonuç: Depresyonun varlığı tedavi sonuçlarının kötü olmasına neden ola-bilir. Psikiyatrik değerlendirme ve erken müdahale bu olgular için oldukça önemlidir.
