Senior Loken Syndrome in a Patient with Retinal Dystrophy

Abstract

Nephronophthisis is a disease characterised with autosomal recessive hereditary chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis which leads to end stage renal failure. Nephronophthisis may generally be affiliated with extrarenal organ involvements. The condition where retinitis pigmentosa and nephronophthisis are seen together is called the Senior Loken Syndrome. This case is rarely observed, however it is presented for drawing attention to the importance of researching renal pathologies in patients presenting with retinal degenerationi because the patients seek help for their eye symptoms, rather than renal symptoms.

Özet

Nefronofitizis son dönem böbrek yetmezliğine yol açan otozomal resesif kalıtılan kronik tubulointersitisyel nefritle karakterize bir hastalıktır. Nefronofitizis sıklıkla böbrek dışı organ tutulumları ile ilişkili olabilir. Retinitis pigmentosa ile nefronofitizisin birlikte olduğu durum ise Senior Loken sendromu olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Bu olgu nadir görülmesinin yanında böbrek bulgularının aksine göz bulguları ile başvurması nedeniyle ve retinal dejenerasyon ile başvuran hastalarda böbrek patolojilerinin araştırılmasının önemine dikkat çekmek için sunuldu.
