Retrospective Analysis of Children with Foreign Bodies in the External Auditory Canal in Otolaryngolgy Clinic of Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital: Evaluation of 93 Cases

Abstract
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the types of foreign bodies and the symptoms and complications they caused according to the demographic characteristics of patients who were brought with complaints related to foreign bodies in the external auditory canal. Material and Method: The pediatric patients who were given medical treatment with the indication of foreign body in EAC between 2014 and 2016 were retrospectively analyzed according to their age, gender, kind of foreign body, symptoms of complaints, treatment and complications. Results: Among 93 pediatric patients (55 girls, and 38 boys), the youngest patient was 3, and the eldest one was 11 years of age with an age range of 4±2.1, 55 years. Mostly beads were observed, and detected in the external ear canal. The most frequently seen symptom was detected to be earache. A foreign body was identified in the right ear in 51, left ear in 41, and both ears in 1 patientIt was identified. More than one foreign body was detected in the same ear of 5 patients. The foreign bodies were removed in 51 patients at polyclinic and in 42 patients at operation room under general anesthesia. Conclusion: At approach to foreign bodies in EAC the age of the child, the type of foreign body are decisive factors can lead to complications when they are not intervened properly.
Özet
Amaç: Bu çalışmada, dış kulak yolu yabancı cisim yakınması ile getirilen hastaların demografik özelliklerine göreyabancı cismlerin türleri ve neden olduğu semptom vekomplikasyonların incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: 2014-2016 tarihleri arasında DKY’dayabancı cisim tanısıyla tedavi edilen pediatrik hastalarınyaş, cinsiyet, yabancı cisim türleri, başvuru semptomları,tedavi ve komplikasyonları retrospektif olarak incelendi.Bulgular: Doksan üç çocuk hastanın en küçüğü 3, en büyü-ğü 11 olmak üzere, yaş ortalaması 4±2.1 55’i kız ve 38’ierkek olarak saptandı. Dış kulak yolunda en sık boncukolduğu izlendi. En sık başvuru şekli olarak, ailelerin çocuklarda yabancı cismi görmesi ve belirlenirken, en sık görü-len semptomun kulak ağrısı olduğu belirlendi. Hastaların51’inde sağ, 41’inde sol kulakta, 1 hastada ise her ikikulakta yabancı cisim saptandı. Beş hastada aynı kulaktabirden fazla yabancı cisim saptandı. Hastalarımızın 51’ninyabancı cismi poliklinik şartlarında, 42 hastada ise ameliyat odasında anestezi altında çıkarıldı.Sonuç: DKY yabancı cisimlerine yaklaşımda, çocuğunyaşı, yabancı cisimin türü belirleyici olup, uygun şekildemüdahale edilemediğinde komplikasyonlara yolaçabilir.
