Abstract

Memoir as a literary genre is a source that sheds light on the socio-cultural structure of the period in which it was written, as well as its political, social, religious and mystical life. In addition to the the diaries, letters and historical documents, The Memoir which we have also conveys autobiographical information to future generations. The Danish Carl Vett, who conducted research on Islamic mysticism, came to İstanbul in 1925. The Memoir he wrote during the time he stayed at “Kelami Dergâhı” in İstanbul contains important information about the religious and mystical life of Istanbul society in the 20th century. The work has predominantly mystical nature because of the information the writer gave about the orders (tariqas) he studied in Istanbul and about the sheikhs he interviewed. Carl Vett shared important information about Hüseyin Nureddin Efendi (d.1946), the sheikh of Badawiyya tariqa, whom he visited in İstanbul. In this study, information about the religious, mystical and socio-cultural life of the city has been evaluated through the memoirs of Carl Vett.

Özet

Edebî bir tür olan hâtırat, kaleme alındığı dönemin sosyo-kültürel yapısının yanı sıra siyasî,içtimaî, dinî ve tasavvufî hayatına ışık tutan bir kaynaktır. Elimizdeki bu hâtıratta; günlük, mektup ve tarihî belgelerle birlikte otobiyografik karakterli bilgileri de gelecek nesillere aktarmaktadır. İslâm Tasavvufu üzerine araştırmalar yapan Danimarkalı Carl Vett 1925 senesinde İstanbul’agelip Kelâmî Dergâhı’nda kaldığı süreçte kaleme aldığı Hâtırât, XX. yüzyıl İstanbul toplumunundinî ve tasavvufî hayatına dair önemli bilgiler içermektedir. Eser, müellifinin İstanbul’da incelediği tarikatlar ve görüştüğü şeyhler hakkında aktardığı bilgiler sebebiyle ağırlıklı olarak tasavvufîbir niteliğe sahiptir. Carl Vett, İstanbul’da ziyaret ettiği Bedeviyye Tarikatı şeyhi HüseyinNureddin Efendi’yle (ö.1946) alakalı önemli bilgiler aktarmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Carl Vett’ninhâtıraları çerçevesinde şehrin dinî, tasavvufî ve sosyo-kültürel hayatına ait malumat değerlendirilmiştir.
