‘Omar Nasafī’s Work Matla’ Al-Nujūm Wa Majma’ Al-‘Ulūm and its Value in Terms of the Tradition of Classification of Sciences

Abstract

Omar al-Nasafī who stands out with his theologion character in the Ḥanafī-Māturīdīline is a thinker who has worked in many branches of religious sciences. His work titled Maṭla’ al Nujūm wa majma’ al-‘ulūm, which he wrote towards the end of his life, is a work that should beevaluated in the tradition of classification of sciences in terms of bringing together various disci plines. It is noteworthy that in this book of Nasafī both works of himself and other authors areincluded directly or concisely and or by translation. Just as it is important to bring a single copy ofthe mentioned work to the world of science by being printed, it is also significant to work on itscontent. This article on the one hand aims to give detailed information about the sciences in thework named Maṭla’ al-Nujūm wa majma’ al-‘ulūm, on the other hand, it intends to determine theplace and improtance of this work in the tradition of classification of sciences up to Nasafī’s time.

Özet

Hanefî-Mâtürîdî çizgide kelâmcı özelliğiyle öne çıkan Ömer Nesefî, dinî ilimlerin birçok dalında eser vermiş bir düşünürdür. Onun ömrünün sonlarına doğru kaleme aldığı Matla’u’nNücûm ve mecme’u’l-‘ulûm adlı çalışması, çeşitli disiplinleri bir araya getirmesi yönüyle ilimler tasnifi geleneğinde değerlendirilmesi gereken bir eserdir. Nesefî’nin bu çalışmasında gerek kendisine gerekse başka müelliflere ait eserlere doğrudan veya muhtasar veyahut da tercüme ederek yer verilmesi dikkat çeken bir husustur. Adı geçen eserin tek nüshasının tıpkı basımı gerçekleştirilerek ilim dünyasına kazandırılması önemli olduğu kadar, içeriğine yönelik çalışmalar da aynı şekilde önem arz etmektedir. Bu makale, bir yandan Matla’u’n-Nücûm ve mecme’u’l-‘ulûm adlı eserin içeriğindeki ilimler hakkında detaylı bilgi vermeyi hedeflerken diğer yandan da bu eserin -Nesefî’ye kadarki süreçte- ilimler tasnifi geleneğindeki yeri ve önemini tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktadır.
