Abstract
Spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) is defined as the presence of air within the mediastinum that is more common in young men, and mostly it is self limiting. The mostcommon symptom (80-90 %) is chest pain, and it is localized in the substernal region. SPM usually resolves spontaneously within 24-36 hours and persists at least 48 hours.Recurrences are very rare. We presented the case of SPMdiagnosed with radiologic evaluation. This case was reported to point out that SPM is important in the differentialdiagnosis of severe chest pain encountered in the emergency unit.
