The rates of resistance to anti-tuberculosis drugs: Results from the Central Laboratory, Balcalı Hospital of Çukurova University

Abstract

Of 9156 different specimens (sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, pleura! fluid, gastric aspirate, urine, bronchial lavage, lung aspirate) sent to the Central Laboratory from clinics and out-clinics of Balcalı Hospital of Çukurova University, Adana, between July 1993 and April 1995, 393 specimens were identified as Mycobacterium tuberculosis by Bactec system. The rates of sensitivity to isoniazid (INH), streptomycin (SM), rifampin (RIF), and ethambutol (ETM) were also evaluated by Bactec system. Total drug resistance was 32.31 %. Single drug resistace was as follows: INH 5.08 %, SM 4.58 %, RIF 3.82 % and ETM 1.01 %. While the resistance of INH + RIF was 5.34 %, two or more drugs resistance was 17.81 %.

Çukurova Üniversitesi Balcalı Hastanesi Merkez Laboratuvarı'na Temmuz 1993 - Nisan 1995 tarihleri arasında klinik ve polikliniklerden gönderilen toplam 9156 farklı örnekten (balgam, beyin-omurilik sıvısı, plöra sıvısı, açlık mide suyu, idrar, bronş lavajı, akciğer aspiratı) Bactec sistemi ile 393 tane Mycobacterium tuberculosis izole edildi. Bu izolatların izoniyazit (INH), streptomisin (SM), etambutol (ETM), rifampin (RİF)'e duyarlılıkları yine Bactec sistemi ile değerlendirildi. Toplam ilaç direnci % 32.31 olarak saptandı. Tek Haça direnç INH, RİF, SM, ETM için sırasıyla % 5.08, % 3.82, % 4.58 ve % 1.01 idi. INH + RİF direnci % 5.34 olarak saptanırken iki ve daha fazla ilaca direnç % 17.81 idi.
