Isolation of yeasts from clinical specimens and their antifungal sensitivity

Abstract

Fifty-seven yeasts were isolated in the specimens which were sent to SSK Buca Hospital Microbiology Laboratory between the dates January 1992 and January 1993. In thirtyfive of these fungi antifungal sensitivities were investigated by ATB Fungus Kit. The number of isolated yeasts were as follows; 31 Candida albicans. 11 C. paraosilosis. seven C. glabrata. two C. krusei. two C. tropicalis. two C. kefvr. one Crvptococcus albidus and one Crvptococcus laurentii. Antifungal drug sensitivity was revealed in 15 of 31 C. albicans and resulted as follows: 100 % sensitivity was detected to nystatin (NYS), amphotericin B (AMB) and 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC); 20 % sensitivity to miconazol (MIC), 13 % to econazole (ECO) and 7 % to ketoconazole (KET). On the other hand C. parapsilosis was 100 % sensitive to 5-FC, AMB- NYS; 16% sensitive to MIC and ECO and 64 % to KET.

Özet

SSK Buca Hastanesi Mikrobiyoloji Laboratuvan'na Ocak 1992 - Ocak 1993 döneminde gönderilen klinik örneklerin 57'sinde maya türü mantar üretilmiştir. Soyutlanan bu mantarların 35'inin antifungal duyarlıkları ATB Fungus Kiti ile araştırılmıştır. Toplam 57 maya mantarın 31'inden (% 54.4) Candida albicans. 11'inden (% 19.3) C. parapsilosis. yedisinde (% 12.2) Ç glabrata. ikisinden (% 3.5) C. krusei. ikisinden (% 3.5) C. tropicalis. ikisinden (% 3.5) C. kefyr. birinden (% 1.8) Cryptococcus albidus. birinde (% 1.8) Cryptococcus laurentii soyutlanmıştır. Üretilen 31 C. albicans susundan 15'ine yapılan antifungal ilaç duyarlılığı sonucunda 5-florositozin (5-FC), amphotericin B (AMB), nistatin (NYS)'e % 100, mikonazol (MlC)'e % 20, ekonazol (ECO)'e % 13, ketokonazol (KET)'e % 7 duyarlı oldukları saptanmıştır. Onbir C. parapsilosis susunun ise 5-FC, AMB, NYS'e % 100, MIC ve ECO'e % 46, KET'e % 64 duyarlı oldukları saptanmıştır.
