Abstract
This study aimed at determining the etiologic agents of liver abscesses. Pus samples belonging to 42 pyogenic liver abscesse patients were bacteriologically examined. Bacterial growth was observed in 86 % of the pus specimens. There was no growth in 14 % of the specimens. The ratio of aerobic bacteria in positive cultures was 58 % and the rest 42 % was anaerobic bacteria. The etiologic agents isolated were as follows: Escherichia coli % 44, Enterobacter spp % 28, Citrobacter freundii % 3, Staphylococcus aureus % 11, Streptococcus spp % 14, Enterococcus spp % 14, black pigmented Gram-negative anaerobic bacilli % 17, Bacteroides fragilis group % 3, Fusobacterium necrophorum % 3, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius % 19, Propionibacterium acnes % 3 and Clostridium spp % 6. It was concluded that E. coli was still the most frequent agent and that anaerobic bacteria as agents are responsible for pyogenic liver abcesses in almost half of the cases.
Üretilen etiyolojik ajanların dağılımı şu şekildedir: Escherichia coli % 44, Enterobacter spp % 28, Citrobacter freundii % 3, Staphylococcus aureus % 11, Streptococcus spp % 14, Enterococcus spp % 14, siyah pigmentli Gram-negatif anaerop çomaklar % 17, Bacteroides fragilis grubu % 3, Fusobacterium necrophorum % 3, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius % 19, Propionibacterium acnes % 3 ve Clostridium spp % 6.
