Abstract

Two new selective and chromogenic media (Albicans ID and Candichrom albicans) were compared with Sabouraud-Dexstrose-Agar (SDA) for rapid identification of Candida albicans. A total of 47 clinical samples (40 vaginal discharges, five oropharyngeal swabs, two catheter specimens) were investigated and yeasts were isolated in 17 clinical specimens on all three agars. Fourteen of 17 yeasts grown on SDA produced pink color in part 1, yellow color in part 2, and greenish color was formed on Albicans ID media in 24 to 48 hours. Fourteen of 17 yeasts grown on SDA produced pink color in part 1, yellow color in part 2, and greenish blue in part 3 on Candichrom albicans. It was observed that blue color was formed on Albicans ID media in 24-48 hours. Two yeasts isolated on SDA did not produce any color on both test media. One yeast was pink on Candichrom albicans, but did not form blue colour on Albicans ID. The other one which formed blue color on Albicans ID did not form pink color on Candichrom albicans. Two types yeasts from one sample, one white and the other blue, were isolated on Albicans ID. As a result, it was found that both of the chromogenic media were compatible with each other. Since the number of samples is limited in this preliminary study, it is still not clarified which medium is better than the other. However, the fact that both of the chromogenic media are capable of identifying C. albicans they appear to have superiority over SDA.

Kırk vagina salgısı, beş orofarengeal sürüntüsü, iki kateter örneği olmak üzere toplam 47 klinik örnek incelemeye alınmış, her üç besiyerinde 17 örnekte maya izole edilmiştir. Yirmidört-kırksekiz saat içinde SDA'da üreyen 17 maya cinsinden mantarın 14'ü Candichrom albicans'ın 1 no'lu besiyerinde pembe; 2 no'lu besiyerinde sarı; 3 no'lu besiyerinde yeşilimsi mavi renk olmuştur, Albicans İD besiyerinde de mavi rengin oluştuğu gözlenmiştir. SDA'dan izole edilen iki maya susu, her iki besiyerinde de renk oluşturmamıştır.
