Abstract
Tinea capitis was screened in 20.439 children in 13 primary schools in Adana city center. The infection rate in these schools ranged from 0 to 0.36 % with a mean of 0.06 %. Twelve children, nine boys and three girls, aged 7 to 12 years were found to be infected. Trichophyton violaceum was the most common isolated organism (66.7 %), followed by Microsporum canis (25.0 %) and T. tonsurans (8.3 %). This study shows that the noninflammatory type of tinea capitis was the dominant presentation, and prevalent organisms were antropophilic.
