Abstract
This paper was aimed at determining the prevalance of Helicobacter pylori in children with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Eighteen children with upper gastrointestinal system bleeding who were followed up in emergency service and underwent endoscopy were evaluated in respect to H. pylori infection, acetyl-salycylic acid ingestion and family history. The history of acetyl salycylic acid ingestion was present in 14(78%) patients. Urease test positivity for H. pylori infection was found in nine (50%) children. Anti-Helicobacter pylori IgG antibody was found in seven (38%) patients whereas in 22 % of the control group with upper gastroentestinal complaints without bleeding. There was no significant correlation between upper gastrointestinal bleeding and H. pylori seropositivity (p>0.05).
