Abstract

The aim of this study was determine the seroprevalance of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). Randomization method was used to choose 180 healthy 0-30 year-old people to be included in the study. Indirect immunoflorescence method was used to determine the specific antibodies of EBV in blood samples. The seropositivity of viral capsid antigen-IgG (VCA-IgG) antibodies, which represent the exposure to EBV, for the total population and for the first four years were 84.4.% and 67.9%, respectively. There was a significant increase in EBV infection which is directly proportional to age. Viral capsid antigen-IgG positive samples were tested for EA- IgG which represent reactivation or chronic infection, and 7.2% of them were found to be positive. Early antigen-IgG positive 13 subjects' new blood samples were tested for EA-lgG six months later and only three were found to be still positive.
