Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the role of extracellular phospholipases in the virulence of Candida albicans strains. Twenty-seven C. albicans strains isolated from oral swabs and saliva of healthy individuals and 39 strains isolated from patients with oral fungal infections were included. Phospholipase activity of these strains were evaluated with modified plate method. Fifteen (55.5%) of the strains from healthy individuals and 30 (76.9%) of the strains from patients were found to be phospholipase-positive. A statistically significant difference was detected between the phospholipase positivity rates of the two groups (t=1.84, p
