Abstract

In this study involving 421 children and 1175 adults, totally 1596 serum samples (2-32 years, F/M: 921/675) delivered to the laboratory for rubella serology from the various clinics of GA TA Haydarpaşa Teaching Hospital, were evaluated for antirubella IgM and IgG with ELISA. The results of the seroprevalances were interpreted according to age groups in both children and adults. Antirubella IgM and IgG seropositivities were 2.9 % and 57.2 % in childhood, 1.0 % and 87.8 % in adulthood, and in total 1.5 % and 79.8 %, respectively. Antirubella IgG positivity rates increased with age in children so that the 12.5 % belonging to preschool period escalated to 63.5 % during adolescence and stabilised at 83.5% (16-19 years) in adulthood.
