Abstract

This study was aimed to investigate the relationship between Diabetes mellitus and foot dermatomycoses and also to compare the diabetic patients with non-diabetic control group for foot dermatomycoses. Fungal infection was found mycologically in 26 of the 180 (14.4%) diabetic patients and seven of the 50 (14.0%) control subjects. A comparison of the culture results of diabetic patients with those of the control group was found insignificant (p>0.05). In conclusion, whether diabetic patients have clinical complaint or not, feet should routinely as well as mycologically be examined.
