Evaluation of Hepatitis B virus /HBV) DNA levels in HBsAg positive soldiers

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the HBV-DNA levels of 171 HBsAg positive soldiers. The sera of HBsAg positive soldiers were investigated for the serological markers of HBV by ELISA and HBV-DNA by bDNA (QuantiplexTM HBV-DNA 1.0 Chiron Diagnostics, USA). HBV-DNA was positive in 46 (27%) of HBsAg positive soldiers, and HBV-DNA was negative in 125 (73%). Of 46 soldiers with positive HBV-DNA, 37 (80.4%) were HBeAg positive and anti-HBe negative, eight (17.4%) were HBeAg negative and anti-HBe positive, one (2.2%) was HBeAg negative and anti-HBe negative. All of HBV-DNA negative soldiers were HBeAg negative and anti-HBe positive. In conclusion, the ratio of HBV-DNA positivity in HBsAg positive soldiers was found as 27%.

Özet

Çalışmanın amacı, HBsAg pozitif bulunan 171 askerin HBV-DNA düzeylerini saptamak idi. Hepatit B gösterge çalışmaları ELISA ile yapıldı. HBV-DNA saptaması ise bDNA (QuantiplexTM HBV-DNA 1.0 Chiron Diagnostics, Amerika) ile belirlendi. HBsAg pozitif 171 askerin 46 (% 27)'sında HBV-DNA pozitifken 125 (%73)'inde negatifti. HBV-DNA pozitif olguların 37 (%80.4)'sinde HBeAg pozitif ve anti-HBe negatif; sekizinde (%17.4) HBeAg negatif ve anti-HBe pozitif; birinde ise (%2.2) HBeAg negatif ve anti-HBe negatifti. HBV-DNA negatif olguların hepsinde HBeAg negatif ve anti-HBe pozitifti. Sonuç olarak, HBsAg pozitif askerlerin % 27'sinde HBV-DNA 'nın pozitif olduğu belirlendi.
