Abstract
Bone and joint infections are difficult to cure because of limited activity of antibiotics in the infected sites. The disease has heterogeneous clinical outcome, and there are many factors that could influence the therapeutic response. Therefore, performing a homogenous clinical trial is difficult. For this reason, recently efforts have been made to create experimental models of osteomyelitis that closely mimic the different infections seen in orthopedic surgery. In this study, a tibial osteomyelitis model in rats is created with the injection of methicilline-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) via intramedullary route. This model is found appropriate for in vivo antimicrobial efficacy studies.
