Plasmodium falciparum malaria: Report of three cases

Abstract

Plasmodium falciparum malana is a disease which causes serious complications. In this report, three cases diagnosed as P. falciparum malaria are presented. All cases had fever and splenomegaly, and one case had also icterus and hepatomegaly. In three cases anemia and trombositopenia and in one case leukopenia were present. In one case, serious anemia and acute renal failure was developed. Mefloquine was used in the treatment of the cases. Every febrile patient with a history of travel to the regions where malaria is endemic should raise the suspicion of malaria.

Plasmodium falciparum sıtması ciddi komplikasyonlara neden olabilen bir hastalıktır. Bu yazıda, P. falciparum sıtması saptanan üç olgu sunulmuştur. Tüm olgularda ateş, splenomegali, bir olguda iketer ve hepatomegali vardı. Üç olguda anemi, trombositopeni; bir olguda lökopeni belirlendi. Bir olguda ciddi anemi ve akut böbrek yetmezliği gelişti. Olguların tedavisinde meflokin uygulandı. Sıtmanın endemik olarak görüldüğü bölgelere seyahat öyküsü olan her ateşli hastaya yaklaşımda öncelikle sıtma düşünülmelidir
