Interferon-alpha2A induced persistent dry cough in a patients with chronic active hepatitis B (A case report)

Abstract

A 51-year-old male was diagnosed as having chronic hepatitis and treated with interferon (IFN)-a2a. Interferon-a was started at a dose of 3 x 9 MU t.i.w., s.c. Laboratory studies prior to treatment revealed elevated serum alanine transaminases levels, but chest X-rays and physical examination showed no abnormality suggestive of pulmonary pathology. Five weeks after the institution of IFN treatment, he started to suffer a persistent dry cough. Chest X-ray, thorax computerized tomography (CT), and pulmonary function tests were normal. After IFN treatment was stopped the symptom of dry cough resolved completely.

Özet

Kronik hepatit B tanısı konulan 51 yaşındaki erkek hastaya subkutan yolla, haftada üç kez 9 MU interferon (IFN)-a2a tedavisi başlandı. Hastanın tedaviye başlamadan once yapılan fizik muayenesinde pulmoner patoloji saptanmadı. Laboratuvar incelemeleri arasında çekilen ön-arka akciğer grafisi normaldi, interferon tedavisine başladıktan beş hafta sonra hastada semptomatik tedaviye yanıt vermeyen persistan öksürük gelişti. Hastanın bu dönemdeki ön-arka akciğer grafisi, bilgisayarlı toraks tomografisi ve pulmoner fonksiyon testleri normaldi, interferon tedavisi kesildikten sonar öksürük tamamen geriledi.
