Abstract
Pentavalent antimony containing drugs and liposomal amphotericin B, the only drug currently approved by the U.S. FDA are recommended as the initial choice of treatment of visceral leishmaniasis. Limited data suggest that amphotericin B lipid complex is also effective. Drug toxicity, treatment failures and relapses after treatment limit the use of pentavalent antimony compounds. In this study, the outcome of two patients in whom liposomal amphotericin B and one patient in whom amphotericin B lipid complex are used because of unavailability of pentavalent antimony compounds are presented.
