Abstract

This paper proposes a constructivist view of sociology on changes taking place within the community of listeners as a community of practice. It shows how digital media and its adoption by the youth lead the redesign of the media interaction and a reconstruction of the community of listeners organized under clubs or associations. It draws on observations made in the wake of the radios in West Africa, including Togo, Benin, Ghana and Burkina Faso, between 2004 and 2010. It shows at first, what this "community" that functions as an institution is, before submitting, as a second step, its transformation under the effect of changes resulting from the adoption of digital in media practices.
