The changes carbonhydrate metabolism in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Abstract
In. this,study we investigated glucose tolerance activity and insulin secretion in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonaiy disease who do not receive glucocorticoids. Twenty-five patients hospitalized for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (19 male and 6female patients; mean age 53-2 ± 4.9 years) were involved and control group consisted of twenty body mass index-, sex- and age-matched volunteers with no sign of pulmonary insufficiency (14 male and 6 female subjects, mean age 50.4 ± 7.2 years). Oral glucose tolerance test was employed to all subjects in both groups'and 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120. minutes plasma glucose levels and 0, 60, and 120. minutes serum insulin levels were me¬asured. Obtained data were analized and compared between the two groups. Our data revealed that frequency of glucose intolerance is significantly higher in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (40% impaired glucose tolerance and 4% diabetes melli-tus) than the controls (20% glucose, intolerance) (p

sekresyonunun araştırılması amacıyla yapılan bu çalışma, kronik obstrüktif akciğer hastalığı ta¬nısı ile yatan 25 hastada (19 erkek ve 6 kadın; ortalama yaş 53-2 ± 4.9 yıl) gerçekleştirildi. Kont¬rol grubu olarak vücut kitle indeksi, cinsiyet ve yaş yönünden farklı olmayan ve solunum yet¬mezliği bulunmayan gönüllü 20 kişi çalışmaya alındı (14 erkek ve 6 kadın; ortalama yaş 50.4 ±7.2 yıl).- Tüm olgulara oral glukoz tolerans testi (OGTT) uygulandı ve 0, 30, 60, 90, 120. dk glukoz düzeyleri ve 0, 60, 120. dk insülin düzeyleri ile ilgili elde edilen veriler iki grup arasında karşı¬laştırılarak istatistiksel analizler yapıldı.
