Analysis of effects of window overhangs on heat gains and losses in buildings

Abstract

One of the most important passive applications in building windows in order to provide thermal confort in an interior medium is the installation of overhangs. In this study, the effect of overhangs on heat gain and heat losses was investigated numerically. For this purpose, a computer programme was developed in MATLAB by considering orientations of a window with one sheet glass. The amount of transmission through glass surfaces in summer and winter climate conditions was calculated depending on dimensions of overhang with the aid of this programme and the results obtained are presented in graphical form.

Bu çalışmada, iç ortamda istenilen konforu sağlamak için, en önemli pasif uygulamalardan biri olan bina pencerelerine yerleştirilen çıkıntıların ısı kazanç ve kayıplarına olan etkisi sayısal olarak araştırılmıştır. Bunun için tek tabaka camdan oluşan pencerenin yönlerini dikkate alarak MATLAB'da bir program geliştirilmiştir. Bu program ile yaz ve kış iklim şartlarındaki cam yüzeylerden geçen ısı miktarı çıkıntı boyutlarına bağlı olarak hesaplanmış ve elde edilen sonuçlar grafikler halinde sunulmuştur.
