Abstract
Whether developed or developing countries, child labour is one of the major problems of all countries in today's world. Child labour, which is mainly due to cheap labour force, poverty, limited access to educational oppor-tunities, migration, cultural and traditional structure, is still continuing. According to the data of 2016, 708 thousand children in the 15-17age group are working. 558 thousand of these are working informally. In 2016, 56 chil-dren lost their life after the work accident. Children who participate in work-ing life at a young age are negatively affected by their physical and psycholog-ical development at the same time. The aim of this study based on the statistical data of the causes of child labour, putting forth the status of child labour in Turkey is done and what should be done to prevent it. In the first part of the study, concepts of childhood and childhood were discussed in terms of general, biological, socio-cultural and legal aspects. At the same time, child labour is also explained in the first chapter, taking into account the concepts such as "working child" and "child work", as well as age limits in various laws. In the second chapter, the causes of child labour are examined under the titles of economic, social, uneducated, cultural rea-sons. In the third part of the child labour situation in Turkey it has been demonstrated within the scope of statistical data. In the conclusion section, it is discussed what can be done to prevent child labour after a general evalua-tion. As a result of the work, although child labour is showing a decline, it appears that child labour still remains an important issue in developed, developing and underdeveloped countries. With the greatest reduction of child labour or the elimination of child labour, children will be prevented from being employed in low-wage jobs and children will benefit from more education and health facilities. In addition, physical and psychological development of chil-dren will be ensured. Thus, children will become a good potential both for the individual and for the future of the country.
