The Methodological Value and the Function of “Ma'ruf/ Mashur Sunnah” in Determination and Critique of Hadith

Abstract
Sunnah, along with Quran, has become an essential criteria in the Islamic thought in determinationand critique of hadith in terms of their relatedness to the Prophet. However, different approachestoward the determination and the content of the Sunnet as the essential factor in terms of thearticulation and functionality of this criteria have been appeared in the long historical proccess.Thus, this paper, especially, is a step for articulating the place of “ma’rouf/mashour sunnah”, whichwas a dominant concept in the first two centuries of the Hijri calendar, in determination and critique method of hadith and also, its historical background and function. Even though there aresome limitations of active usage of “ma’rouf/mashour sunnah” originated from different understandings of sunnah, it is an important and primary criteria developed from methodological structure ofthe determination and the critique of hadith, and also it is a criterion which keeps its value in itsconsistency, applicability and functionality.
Özet
İslam düşüncesinde “Sünnet”, Kur’an’la birlikte hadislerin Hz. Peygamber’e aidiyetinin tespiti vetenkidinde temel bir kriterdir. Ancak, tarihi süreçte bu ilkenin kullanım alanını ve işlevselliğini belirleyen temel unsur, “sünnet”in tespiti ve muhtevası konusundaki yaklaşım farklılıkları olmuştur. İştebu çalışma, özellikle hicri ilk iki asırda hâkim olan “ma’rûf/meşhur sünnet”in hadis tespit ve tenkitsistemindeki yerini, tarihî arka planını ve işlevini ortaya koymak adına atılmış bir adımdır. Aktifkullanımı önünde özellikle sünnetin algılanmasındaki farklılıklardan kaynaklanan birtakım sınırlılıklarmevcut olsa da “ma’rûf/meşhur sünnet”, hadis tespit ve tenkidinin metodolojik yapısından hareketle ortaya konulmuş, değeri iç tutarlılığında, uygulanabilirliği ve işlevselliğinde olan önemli ve öncelikli bir kriterdir.
