Abstract

This article examines the first attempt to write the historyof Zonguldak coal mining after it was nationalized in the single party period of Turkish republic . The study led by Zonguldak People's House identified Uzun Mehmet as the man who discovered coal on November 8, 1829 and consequently November 8 was declared as Coal Festival Day in Turkey.

Özet

Bu makale tek parti döneminde millileştirilen Zonguldak kömür ocaklarının milli tarihinin yazılabilmesi için yapılan çalışmaları incelemektedir. Zonguldak Halkevi tarafından yürütülen çalışma sonunda Uzun Mehmet'in Türkiye'de kömürü ilk bulan kişi olduğu tespit edilmiş ve kömürün bulunuş tarihi olarak belirlenen 8 Kasım günü Kömür Bayramı ilan edilmiştir.
