Bingo as a Variety of Fun and Gambling in the Recent Times of the Ottoman Empire

Osmanlı Devleti’nin Son Zamanlarında Eğlencenin ve Kumarın Bir Çeşidi Olarak Tombala

Abstract

The phenomenon of play and entertainment is one of the important activities of every period of life. There were many plays in the Ottoman Empire, played individually and collectively. In this study, the issue of bingo, which began to be seen in Ottoman entertainment life with Westernization, was examined. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the role of bingo in Ottoman socio-cultural life and its development. Moreover, the attitude of the public authority against this entertainment sector has been tried to be examined. The White Russians have an important influence on the increase of the impact of the Bingo in the social life, especially during the Armistice Period. This entertainment sector continued to exist until the late Ottoman period.

Özet

Oyun ve eğlence olgusu yaşamın her devresinin önemli etkinlikleri arasında yer almaktadır.Osmanlı Devleti’nde bireysel ve toplu olarak oynanan birçok oyun vardı. Bu çalışmada Batılılaşmaile birlikte Osmanlı eğlence hayatında görülmeye başlanan tombala konusu irdelenmiştir. Tombalaoyununun Osmanlı sosyo-kültürel hayatındaki yeri ve süreç içerisinde geçirmiş olduğu gelişimiortaya çıkarmak bu çalışmanın temel amacıdır. Ayrıca kamu otoritesinin bu eğlence sektörükarşısındaki tutumu da incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Tombalanın, özellikle Mütareke Dönemi’nde, sosyalyaşamda etkisinin artarak gelişmesinde Beyaz Rusların önemli bir etkisi vardır. Bu eğlence sektörüOsmanlı’nın son dönemlerine kadar varlığını sürdürmüştür.
