Abstract
Unlike various Turkish states before it, the Ottoman State chose to adopt established values (settled life) instead of being a nomadic confederation. It is known that the Ottoman State created many institutions in this sense beginning as early as its inception. The Guild of Janissary (1362-1365) established in this way constituted one of the most fundamental components of the Ottoman army for centuries. However, the Janissaries are known for rebellions they staged in the Ottoman history as well as their accomplishments in battle fields. In this context, they are known to have staged numerous rebellions in 380 years from the Buçuktepe Rebellion, which took place during the reign of Mehmed II (1446) until the abolition of the Guild (1826). Taking into consideration the fact that any social phenomenon has more than one cause, this study will attempt to reveal the causes of the Buçuktepe Incident and seek answers to questions such as how it took place and why it took place at that specific time. As a result of this rebellion, Murad II acceded to the throne once again as an experienced sultan upon invitation by some statesmen. Mehmed II, on the other hand, was dethroned on the grounds that he was a young/inexperienced sultan and banished to Manisa. It is understood that the rebellion led to some other consequences other than the change of the ruler. Mehmed II, who had been deposed following the Buçuktepe Rebellion, never forgot this incident and established a system after his accession to the throne a second time in which he would not share power with anyone else. Hence, an Ottoman understanding of administration called patrimonialism or sultanism and a typology of Ottoman sultans emerged.
